Where did this idea of a disassociation letter come from anyway....is there some sort of JW rule somewhere that says this is the thing to do?

They changed a lot of the key doctrines that were supposed to be the TRUTH afterI was baptized which made null and void the terms under which I becane a dedicated member. I don't owe them any explaination....especially when doing so would be giving them even more sway over my life than I had already been misled into giving them.

The reason the Society keeps everyone busy with "campaigns"
by stuckinarut2 inim sure that many have had an experience where we try and keep little kids "occupied" while on a boring trip, such as a car ride or plane flight.. we come up with "games" like..."lets see how many green cars we can count", or "lets try and see who can sit still for the longest time".
"the winner gets a prize!".
obviously, until they are wise enough to cotton on, all we are doing is keeping them occupied to prevent them asking things like "are we there yet?!".

Creating religious issues where none exist and urgent busy work for the rank and file, ensures that the folks at HQ have a job and get to continue living off of the donations of those who are still caught on the JW treadmill.

Yep....and it's probably " Invite a Heathen Out In Service- Week" down at the local Kingdom Hall. Don't say anyting one way or another about your JW stance. If pressed for an answer, be vague and very non committal.

I'm ok with it but I thougt it was odd that he and the JW woman were having a big ol' conversation about their love of "worldly" music, at the Kingdom Hall let alone just before the memorial. JW's read in the magazines about the dangers of the world and the evils of the entertainment industry and use cognative dissonance to still be ok with listeng to it...even loving it.
I'll bet that lady was pretty blown away that they had so much in common....and so quickly.

what to do when you have a crazy friend?
by losingit init's hard for me to start this topic bc i feel like i'm being judgmental, a quality i don't like in others and one i try to stay away from as much as possible.
i really do try to be an understanding, caring person.
i essentially believe that all people are good and i am shocked to my core when i am betrayed.

There is a difference between being judgemental and being discerning. You aren't labeling anyone or punishing them when you're being discerning. You are simply being perceptive and aware of people and situations you encounter.
In this case I think you already know what you should do...all the signals are there.
The trouble is, back when you were a JW you learned that it wasn't enough to be discerning you also had to put a label ( weak, apostate, Df'd, DA'd) on people and be part of a personal punishment that was handed down to them from a man made authority whether you agreed with it or not.
That isn't the case here. You aren't going to insist that this womans friends and family snub her, you have made a decision that the direction this woman is heading, isn't one that you want to be involved with.

If you look closely, one of the magazines in their cart features a thought provoking article about Joseph and his coat of may colors. (wink wink)

I have a relative by marriage, who is gay. She has been shunned since she was 19 when she "came-out" to the family just a few weeks before she and an older married sister in the Hall ran off together. This pretty 19 year old had been babysitting for a married sister since she was in Jr. high school. The married sister (very masculine) was always buying her expensive presents and looking back at it now, their relationship always seemed way too close.
Anyway they moved away after the firestorm that ensued and lived together for years, attended college became successful, even headed some LBGT organizations where they met other former JW's in the same situation as they were. They even nursed one young guy who happened to be the son of a Circuit Overseer, through AIDS. Apparently the CO and his wife unlike her own family, kept in close contact and were supportive of their Son to the end of his life.
These two ladies eventually went their seperate ways. Now this relative is in her late 30's and has met someone new. They are getting to know eachother and it looks like things are getting serious.
We just found out the other day that the two of them were driving down the street and passed by a local Kingdom Hall. The new friend suddely said in a knowing tone of voice "Ahhh yes....the Kingdom Hall "
It turns out she too was a former JW who's entire family (grandparents as well) left the Org. rather than shun their daughter for being Gay. It's a small world sometimes. It will be interesting to hear her JW story.
Stay tuned.
